Lake Michigan Charter Fishing Lake Michigan Charter Fishing

April:
The big lake fishing season begins in April out of the port of Pentwater. April brings warmer spring days and great brown trout fishing. In April, the brown trout move into the shallow waters around the river mouths in search of smelt and alewives. Browns are typical fished on lighter tackle with planner boards. These fish are often considered to be the best eating fish of the whole year. I also offer a reduced rate during April.

May:
May has a lot to offer. We still have browns patrolling the shallow near shore waters. Lake trout season opens on May 1. But the best of all about May is that the very active early season Chinook (king) salmon show up. These fish can make for a very action packed day on the lake. They average 5 to 20 pounds. I also offer a reduced rate during the month of May.

June:
June is the start of our summer fishing. We catch a good amount of Lake trout averaging 4 -15 pounds. June is also the start of the off-shore steelhead fishing. These silver bullets frequent the deep-water scum lines and thermal barriers. These fish average 3-12 pounds and put on an awesome acrobatic show during the fight.

July:
July is the month when the big Chinooks start showing up in Pentwater. Although the Chinook are the main attraction for July, the lake trout and steelhead fish still remains excellent during July.

August:
August is the month for salmon. Big Kings (Chinooks). These fish are at their prime. The kings have been feeding heavily all summer and are starting to reach their peak weights (20-30lbs). These fish are very strong fighters at this stage of their lives which offers the angler a great challenge. The kings begin schooling up in August in preparation for their run to spawn. This makes for some great catches of big fish. August also offers some great Coho salmon fishing. Although not as large as the kings, they are great fighters for their size averaging 2 - 10lbs.

September:
The first part of September still offers some excellent Big King fishing. Some of the biggest kings (Chinook) are caught in the first couple of weeks in September. In September, we also return to the deep-water scum lines in search of the acrobatic steelhead.

October:
October brings the end of the season for most, but October also offers some great Steelhead fishing.
